Times Like These by The Live Lounge All-Stars

The Live Lounge All-Stars — a group of 25 performers — have come together to create a new version of the Foo Fighters’ “Times Like These.” The recording benefits the groups Children In Need and Comic Relief to help those harmed by the coronavirus pandemic.

The song, which is an appropriate choice for our current times, features artists such as Dua Lipa, Coldplay’s Chris Martin, Elle Goulding, and Hailee Steinfeld. Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters, who reports the effort made him emotional, also makes an appearance.

It’s times like these you learn to live again;
It’s times like these you give and give again;
It’s times like these you learn to love again;
It’s times like these time and time again.

The recording has already gone to number one on the U.K. singles chart. Check it out.

    Ryan Adams Covers Foo Fighters’ “Times Like These”

    Ryan Adams Time Like These

    This video of a live performance combines one of my favorite Foo Fighters songs with one of my favorite singers, Ryan Adams. On July 21, 2015 at the Sydney Opera House, Adams busted out an acoustic version of “Times Like These” as a tribute to Foo Fighters lead singer David Grohl, who has had some recent injuries while still being devoted to his music.

    Earlier this year, Grohl announced he had broken his rib after performing at Sasquatch! Music Festival. He continued touring only to break his leg mid-set last month. Adams noted his admiration for Grohl, who even finished the concert where he broke his leg. And then Adams gave a moving acoustic rendition of “Times Like These.” Check out his cover of the song from the Foo Fighters 2002 album One by One.

    BBC Releases All-Star “God Only Knows”

    Charity God Only Knows

    Reminding us of the old days when mega-stars would gather together to sing a song to benefit a charity, the BBC is celebrating the launch of BBC Music with a charity single version of the 1966 Beach Boys classic “God Only Knows” to benefit the BBC’s Children in Need appeal. Produced by Ethan Johns, the song is being released by Sony, and Universal, and Warner Music.

    The singers include the song’s writer, Brian Wilson. Other stars include Elton John, One Direction, Stevie Wonder, Pharrell Williams, Lorde, Emeli Sandé, Chris Martin, Kylie Minogue, Sam Smith, Florence Welch, Chrissie Hynde, Brian May, Dave Grohl, and Baaba Maal. The song also features the Tees Valley Youth Choir and the BBC Concert Orchestra. Check out the “God Only Knows” video, which includes some cool special effects.

    The video was filmed at the Alexandra Palace theatre in London.

    Paul McCartney & Members of Nirvana: “Cut Me Some Slack”

    The big story leading up the the 12-12-12 Concert for Sandy Relief last night was the news that Paul McCartney was going to play with the surviving members of Nirvana — Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic and Pat Smear.  Although it might have first seemed like an odd pairing, remember that McCartney and the Beatles recorded songs like “Helter Skelter.”  Anyway, if you missed the performance, here the group plays a new song, “Cut Me Some Slack.”

    In addition to appearing on the concert’s soundtrack, “Cut Me Some Slack” will appear in Grohl’s upcoming film, Sound City Movie.

    What do you think of the performance?  Leave your two cents in the comments.
